CTAC 30%: Cetrimonium Chloride
Cetrimonium chloride (CTAC) is a cationic quaternary ammonium salt commonly used as a light conditioning agent in hair care products. In conditioners and cream rinses, it enhances both wet and dry combing while minimizing static electricity. As a cationic compound, CTAC is mainly found in conditioning products rather than shampoos.
This product is a solution with 29–30% active cetyl trimethyl ammonium chloride. CTAC also serves as a topical antiseptic and preservative due to its ability to inhibit microorganism growth. Additionally, it functions as a surfactant for cleansing and emulsifying and as a suspending agent.
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review has determined that CTAC is safe for use in leave-on products at concentrations up to 0.25% active. The European Union (EU) recommends usage limits of 2.5% active in rinse-off hair care products, 1.0% active in leave-on hair care products, and 0.5% active in leave-on facial cream products, due to its potential to cause skin irritation at higher concentrations.
Recommended Usage Rates for CTAC 30%:
Rinse off products: 0.25 - 10%
Leave on products: Up to 1%
Note: Since this product is considered harmful to the environment, it is currently classified as a hazardous material for international shipping. Therefore, buyers must have the capability to clear hazardous goods through customs in their own country. This type of product is not sold at retail for export; the minimum order quantity is one 20-foot DG container or a combined shipment with other products such as BTMS, BTAC, etc.
